Lithuanian court fine

Amber Gaming has been hit with a €15,000 fine by the Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority following a dispute concerning the limitation of a player's betting options. This ruling exemplifies the stringent regulatory framework governing Lithuania's gambling landscape.

Origin of the Dispute:

The issue was initiated in May when a player complained to the Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority. The player claimed that Amber Gaming, operating under the 7bet brand, unjustifiably limited his betting offers. The operator's data indicated that the complainant made 279 sports bets during the examined period, though this data remains unpublished per Amber Gaming's standard procedures.

The Unplanned Inspection:

Prompted by the complaint, the Authority conducted an unplanned special inspection to assess Amber Gaming's adherence to Lithuania's gambling laws, mainly focusing on Article 18, Part 1 of the Law on Gambling. This law mandates that remote gaming operators must specify the terms of each betting offer, the operator's location, and the eligibility criteria for special betting offers, ensuring a transparent betting environment for players.

Findings and Repercussions:

The inspection revealed that Amber Gaming failed to provide all necessary data related to the issue as it was deemed confidential. Moreover, they could not provide evidence justifying the player's betting options limitation. Consequently, the regulator concluded that Amber Gaming violated Article 18, paragraph 1 of Lithuania's Law on Gambling, warranting a fine of €15,000. Like other operators, Amber Gaming holds the right to appeal against this decision in Lithuania.

Prior Infractions:

This isn't Amber Gaming's first brush with regulatory issues in Lithuania. The firm incurred a €6,000 fine in February for breaching promotional regulations. Amber Gaming had sent out emails to users explaining how to set up a password for their 7bet accounts, which included banner graphics promoting the 7bet brand. This act was identified as a breach of Article 10, Paragraph 19 of the Lithuanian Gambling Act concerning marketing and promotion of gambling services.

A Sign of Stringent Regulation:

The fines levied against Amber Gaming reflect the rigid regulatory framework within Lithuania's gambling sector. The authorities remain committed to enforcing the law to ensure a fair and transparent gambling environment for all participants. This case reminds gaming operators in Lithuania and elsewhere about the importance of full compliance with local gambling laws to avoid hefty fines and maintain a clean operational record.
