New deal with Universal enables company to battle CryptoLogic, Playtech.
Swedish company Net Entertainment has become the latest company to enter the lucrative branded online gaming market, thanks to a new multi-year licensing agreement with Universal Partnerships and Licensing.
The deal will give Net Entertainment the right to develop games based on specific Universal brands, allowing it to compete with other developers such as CryptoLogic and Playtech, which already have licensing agreements with film companies. Click here for a list of Net Entertainment Games.
Although the company is yet announce which brands it will turn into games, the possibilities are endless, given the selection of titles owned by Universal, a division of media powerhouse NBC Universal, one of the six biggest movie studios in the world.
Universal Pictures is home to such recent hits as the 2010 version of Robin Hood, Inglourious Basterds (2009 and the 2008 cartoon-themed movie The Incredible Hulk, as well as 80s and 90s classics such as ET, Back to the Future, Jaws and Jurassic Park.
It also boasts an exciting list of movies that are currently in production, including The Immortals, a science-fantasy film to be released in 3D around 2011, and Dr Seuss' The Lorax, scheduled to be released in 2012.
