PokerStars makes a monumental deal with Resorts Casino Hotel.
PokerStars, the world's largest Internet poker site, has recently announced plans to offer online gaming at the Resorts Casino Hotel in New Jersey the first Atlantic City Casino opened in 1978 and owned by New York real estate investor Morris Bailey. The agreement is only awaiting New Jersey regulators' final approval.
You may have heard that PokerStars tried to buy Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in New Jersey not long ago, but that the deal fell through when the American Gaming Association trade group opposed the arrangement.
PokerStars' parent company, Isle of Man-based Rational Group Ltd., has since ironed out the obstacles and is ready to launch this new initiative for real! Essentially, the Group settled with the U.S. Justice Department over charges of fraud and money laundering related to the company's offering of online poker in the country last year, but this year, the legal canvas looks quite different.
Just this February, in order to further develop New Jersey's $3 billion casino industry, state-wide online betting was legalized. However, the online operators that are coming in now are required to have a partnership with an Atlantic City partner, keeping the expansion focused on the current New Jersey gambling hub.
PokerStars is the world's largest poker site and the home of the World Championship of Online Poker. The 2012 championship included 65 events over 22 days and $55,522,590 was won! Player maratik won the Main Event, taking home a $1,000,907 prize (after a six-way chop)! If poker's your game, it's time to get to know PokerStars.
