Prediction market traders are placing their bets on Anthropic to remain the AI leader through 2026. We explore what Polymarket data reveals, why sentiment has shifted, and whether rivals still have time to change the picture.
AI moves fast. Market sentiment can move even faster. On Polymarket, traders are putting real money bets behind their expectations, and one company has emerged as the overwhelming favourite in the race to build the world's leading AI model.
Prediction markets have become an increasingly popular way to measure public expectations. But participating bettors do not rely on opinion polls or analyst forecasts; instead, they buy and sell positions based on what they believe will happen.
Technology and AI have become one of Polymarket's busiest categories, with more than 140 active and settled markets tracking everything from model performance to corporate acquisitions. Among them, the monthly "Which company has the best AI model?" markets have attracted millions of dollars in trading volume.
The July edition alone has generated more than $7.28 million in trading volume so far, making it the second-most-traded AI market in the category. Only the market predicting which technology companies will be acquired before 2027 has attracted more activity, with over $18 million in trading volume so far.
Looking across recent results, traders have shown remarkable consistency, and month after month, the “confidence” barely changed:
The current July market tells much the same story. Anthropic commands 98.6%, leaving Google, OpenAI, Moonshot, DeepSeek, Meta, xAI, Alibaba and several other AI tools and developers with less than 1% each.
Even the August market, which still has weeks before settlement, gives Anthropic a commanding 93% chance of remaining on top.
That kind of consistency is unusual in technology. AI leadership has changed hands several times over the past few years, yet prediction market participants appear convinced that Anthropic currently has enough momentum to stay ahead.

The longer traders look into the future, the less certain they become.
Polymarket's market for the best AI model at the end of 2026 has attracted more than $360,000 in trading volume. Anthropic still leads comfortably at 65%, but rivals begin to gain meaningful ground.
Google sits second (on 13%), followed by OpenAI (on 11%). Meta and xAI round out the leading challengers, while companies including DeepSeek, Moonshot and Alibaba retain smaller chances.
That doesn't necessarily suggest weakening confidence in Anthropic. Instead, it reflects how game-changing AI development can be over several months. A major model release, breakthrough capability, or unexpected partnership could quickly reshape expectations.

Prediction markets rarely move on headlines alone, because participants continuously update positions as new information becomes available.
Several factors may explain why Anthropic continues attracting such strong support, with consistent model releases and strong enterprise momentum as the most obvious ones.
Rather than relying on occasional blockbuster launches, Anthropic has developed a reputation for delivering regular improvements. That steady pace helps reinforce confidence among traders looking beyond short-term announcements.
Businesses continue to invest heavily in AI systems that balance capability and reliability. Anthropic has strengthened its position in enterprise deployments, giving traders another reason to expect sustained leadership.
None of this, however, means the race is over. Google continues investing aggressively across Gemini and its broader AI ecosystem. OpenAI remains one of the industry's biggest innovators, while Meta, xAI and several Chinese developers continue releasing increasingly capable models.
The September market offers a reminder that sentiment can still change. Although Anthropic currently leads with 84%, positions shifted rapidly over just a few hours as traders responded to new developments.
Prediction markets are designed to evolve as new information emerges.
It is important to remember that Polymarket does not determine which AI model is objectively "best".
Instead, these contracts reflect what traders collectively believe independent judges or market criteria will conclude when the contracts settle. New benchmarks, product launches, and expert evaluations emerge constantly, and prices adjust accordingly.
But these markets, in that sense, provide a real-time snapshot of industry expectations rather than a definitive ranking of AI companies.

Prediction markets continue to expand beyond politics into technology, entertainment, culture, and major world events. Whether you're following the crypto token race, award ceremonies or the latest sports events, these markets offer another way to engage with the news as it unfolds.
