Sheffield Punter Just Misses Seven-Figure WinPublished November 22, 2011 by OCR Editor
This William Hill betting customer came oh so close to scooping a massive accumulator win.
We all love hearing about fellow punters who win hundreds of thousands betting at land-based and online sportsbooks, but sometimes it's good to remember those who come so agonizingly close only to miss out at the last hurdle.
Short-Head Defeat for Sheffield Punter
A customer of William Hill's betting shop is the star of our story this week after his £50 each-way six-fold wager fell just short of taking a 57,329/1 accumulator following the short-head defeat of "Tamarinbleu" at Haydock.
The punter had £443,632 running on this horse, who despite almost two years away from the track still finished a narrow second to Cappa Bleu in a three-mile handicap race. The place still delivered £5,528 to the punter, but it could have been so much more.
Earlier in the day, he won on Kauto Star at 6/1, Overturn at 5/2, Imsingingtheblues at 7/1, Neptune Equester at 4/1 and Dynaste at 8/1, but it was the 11/2 Tamarinbleu that ultimately spoiled the party.
Online Horse Race Betting
Maybe he should have bet online? William Hill Sports last month revamped its horse racing pages to provide a "best odds guarantee" for races through the UK and in Ireland, South Africa, the USA and Australia. Their new race card system also makes it easier for punters to read formguides and keep track of several races at the same time.
