Special: bet365 is Ready for The Cheltenham Festival - Are You?

Millions will be wagered, and people from all over will be watching, horse racing fans and non-fans as well, as the prestigious Cheltenham Festival takes place next week. Educate yourself on this huge event and make your pick at bet365 Sports.

From next Tuesday, March 15 to March 18, a four day racing extravaganza will take place in England that will attract fanatic horse racing enthusiasts and punters in droves; the Cheltenham Festival attracts millions of viewers from all over the world, and not necessarily only those with an interest in horse racing.

History

As the definitive horse race of the UK's National Hunt season, the Cheltenham Festival is second in total prize money in English horse-racing only to the legendary Grand National.

Cheltenham Festival originated in 1860 as the two-day National Hunt Chase first held at Market Harborough. After an initial staging at Cheltenham in 1861, the event was subsequently held at multiple race courses simultaneously, until permanently re-settling some forty-odd years later into Cheltenham at the new Prestbury Park course. The event was coined the Cheltenham “festival” in 1907 by the Warwick Advertiser.

Today, synchronized with St,. Patricks' Day, betting is now available on a full slate of twenty-seven race runs run over the course of the four day spectacle that the Cheltenham festival has evolved into.

Gold Cup

The climax of the festivities is the Gold Cup of Day 4, featuring Cheltenham's hottest and most anticipated race, the Timico Gold Cup Steeplechase. Established in 1924, the Gold Cup was originally a supporting race with the County Hurdle as the main event on the first day. Since then, the Gold Cup has morphed into a championship race that features the most dashing horses of the year.

bet365 Has You Covered

With the millions watching and millions of pounds being wagered, all developments regarding the respective conditions of the competing horses will be monitored closely in the days leading up to the renowned Cheltenham Roar.

Leading UK sportsbook bet365 Sports will equip punters with a comprehensive odds sheet and horse guide as well as all updates to the extensive coverage and betting markets surrounding the racing field. To add to that, bet365 Sports has smart and worthy offers to enjoy a day at the races in Cheltenham; particularly standing out is the Channel 4/1 offer - punters get a risk free bet by backing a winner at 4/1 or more on a Channel 4 race (please take heed of the full T&C when applying for this offer).

Big Competition this Year

Unfortunately, defending champion Coneygree, the first novice to win the Gold Cup in only his fourth outing, will not be able to defend his title in the Timico Gold Cup Chase due to injury. This leaves the Gold Cup wide open for the remaining field of 21 competitors.

Leading horse owner Willie Mullins has a number of potential Gold Cup runners in his stable including JLT Novice Chase champion Vautour, whose odds to win bet365 places at 4/1, Don Poli (11/2) and soft ground powerhouse Djakadam (5/1), all of whom are showing peak form so far his season.

Among the rest of the field are popular horses coming on in 2016 such as Don Cossack (4/1), Many Clouds (25/1), and Sir Des Champs (66/1).

Fresh off victories in the Betfair Chase and the King George VI Chase while eclipsing the Jockey Club Racecourses' £1-million bonus, Cue Card (5/1) certainly looks ready to challenge.

Hennessy Gold Cup hero Smad Place (10/1), from Alan King's Wiltshire yard, and defending Crabbie's Grand National victor Many Clouds (25/1) appear to be peaking as well.

Last year's third place finisher Road To Riches (16/1) is back and fully recovered from recent health issues.  Last year's third place finisher will be looking to make up for the mere three-and-a-half lengths that separated him from Coneygree last year.

Fun New Features

As for Cheltenham spectators, new features they are sure to enjoy at the track include the £45 million Princess Royal Grandstand; the Crescent Walk-Way enclosure on the winners’ second tier doubling the volume of the cheers; additional seats in the pull up area; and drink ordering from the seats through a click and collect service via mobile device.
