Unibet Acquires iGame Group

Unibet Group has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of iGame Holding and all subsidiaries. The deal will see a profound expansion of Unibet Group's abilities to cater to wider markets.

This means Unibet will now have a direct line to the Nordics and Central Europe, the territory that the iGame Group specializes in, via seven local brands which offer online casino, poker and sports betting.

The transaction will not become official until it completes the regulatory approval process, expected in the third quarter of 2015.

With re-regulation in the Nordic markets pending over the next few years, Unibet has dug in its heels at the right time. The initial price of EUR 59 million will be paid in cash upon completion.

Moving Forward at iGame

Malta-based iGame's 130 employees will remain under the same management, led by current CEO Tommi Maijala, subject to retention arrangements to deliver the business plan during the next three years.

The deal will give iGame group a wider product portfolio, more effective marketing, and a wider product and media reach.  

Partner Strategy

As Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström explains: “The iGame brands are well known in their local markets and we see a lot of potential by combining our bigger scale, mobile, cross channel and product expertise with their local focus.”

As for branding, the strategy is to keep a number of iGame casino brands to complement existing Unibet and Maria brands.

The CEO of iGame Tommi Maijala expressed his happiness at joining the Unibet Group, pointing out the shared passion of the two companies for customer service and operational improvement. He added that iGame customers will promptly see the benefits of this deal through improved product offerings, and looked forward to the new opportunities that accelerated growth and development would provide.
