William Hill will have to payout Oxfam £100k if Roger Federer confirms dead man’s bet.
William Hill will have to pay out the unlikeliest of bets if Roger Federer wins this years Wimbledon title, with the online bookmakers committed to paying charity Oxfam £100 thousand as per a deceased man's will.
Oxfam's Dead CertOxford man Nick Newlife placed a wager nine years ago on Roger Federer winning the tournament seven times, but he died before seeing his wager come to fruition. However, the man stipulated in his will that the bet be left to charity Oxfam, who will collect if Federer gets the one more Wimbledon title he needs next month - or in any tournament before 2019.
According to William Hill, Newlife staked a bet of £1520 on Federer back in 2003, when he received odds of 66/1. Oxfam said that legacies amount to 10 percent of their total income from individuals, and they will certainly welcome this massive payday should the Swiss tennis player win another grand slam next month.
Wimbledon Odds and PromosWilliam Hill Sports is offering 4/1 odds on Federer to win the Wimbledon Championships men's singles title, making him third in the betting. Serb Novak Djokovic is 7/4 favourite to defend his title, Rafael Nadal - fresh off defeating Djoka at the French Open - is 2/1, while Brit crowd favorite Andy Murray is 6/1.
