Texas Hold Em Live Betting

Caribbean gaming and entertainment company Caribbean Casino & Gaming Corp (CCGC) announced a deal with Tradewinds Broadcasting Corp. that will stream real time Texas Holdem tournaments action over the Internet and allow viewers to place bets. Wagers will be the live players and include the outcome of individual hands as well as the outcome of the tournaments as a whole. Unlike the situation today, were viewers watch the games not in real time but rather delayed and edited, online viewers will now experience the tournaments in actual live style. The value that will come of this is beyond mere entertainment: viewers will be engaged and able to place their wagers, not knowing the end result. The interactive experience is planned to be in operation by late 2009, said Steven Swank, president of CGCC. It will then bring "a whole new dimension" to poker tournaments such as the World Series of Poker, in the words of Tradewinds Media Director, Allen Engebretsen.

Charles Barkley in Full Swing

"Legends of the fall" is certainly not a term that Charles Barkley is likely to surrender to anytime soon. The NBA hall-of-famer and TNT basketball analyst has confirmed that while he has endured some difficulties of late, he has things firmly under control. Barkley made headlines in 2008 when it was revealed that he had paid off a staggering $400,000 in gambling debts to Wynn Las Vegas casino for four $100,000 casino markers he had accepted to gamble with. The story put the brakes on his aspirations for a political career, but Barkley has roared back to the limelight amidst a flurry of candid interviews with ESPN and confessions. Coming clean For 25 years the name Charles Barkley has been synonymous with excellence and integrity. He remains a man whose opinions are revered  and whose expertise are sought after. Now that Barkley has admitted to indulging in alcohol - sometimes even driving under the influence - his adoring fans have largely exculpated him from wrongdoing. No gambling for now Barkley admits that gambling has been a big part of his life to date. Following his debt repayment of $400,000, he has gone cold turkey with gambling. He has alluded to the possibility that he may well roll the dice in the future, but for the past year he has stayed away from the casinos. Regardless, he openly admits that he likes to gamble. Taking up golf Now that he's given up drinking and driving, Barkley admits that he enjoys driving of another kind - on the golf course. In July 2009 he is expected to show off his improved golf game at Lake Tahoe's resort where he'll be attending the 20th annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship. Despite his golf game being in tatters, he feels he can still turn a head or two. Regarding his gambling, he intonates that it was the fact that he was regularly losing that upset him. But he openly admits to missing placing bets on the football games - something he feels he's likely to do in the near future. Punters have already placed 499-1 odds on him at the celebrity golfing event, perhaps Barkley may even place a surprise wager on himself?

Illinois Approves Online Gambling

Lawmakers in the US state of Illinois approved this week a bill to allow residents to gamble and bet online. The new regulation will allow wagering on horse racing at online betting sites. The state House passed the bill by a strong margin of 87 in favor and 27 against, after it had already been passed by the senate. However, the House rejected a bill that would have expanded casino gambling. Lawmakers are still uncertain as to how the new rule will be affected by the federal 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), which effectively banned Internet gambling by outlawing the transfer of funds from a financial institution to Internet gambling sites.

Russian Beats World's Best in WSOP

Russian Vitaly Lunkin beat 200 of the world's best players to win a special World Series of Poker commemorative event in Las Vegas on Monday. Lunkin, a 37-year-old poker professional, walked away with his second gold bracelet and $1.89 million after beating 23-year-old Las Vegas pro Isacc Haxton to win the 2009 World Series of Poker Special 40th Annual $40,000 No Limit Hold em tournament. The battle between Lunkin and Haxton lasted 54 hands a more than three hours. The Russian won the final hand with pocket aces to claim the biggest WSOP prize pool outside of a Main Event, beating a cast that included former WSOP Main Event winners Scotty Nguyen and Doyle Brunson and many of the world's top poker players. "Every player at the table was a star and I knew about then, but now I saw them in a real tournament and I'm very happy that I had this chance to battle with them," Lunkin told reporters via a translator following the victory. "It was the most difficult poker tournament of my life." This year's World Series of Poker runs from May 27 to July 15, including 57 bracelet events and culminating in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event.

Lakers NBA Finals Odds Favorites

It's official - the Los Angeles Lakers are strong odds favorites to defeat the Orlando Magic in the NBA finals, which begins this week. The Lakers are currently 1.35 favorites at UK bookmaker Ladbrokes to win the best-of-seven series, with Orlando way back at 3.40. The odds at William Hill are similar: LA, 1.33, Orlando, 3.25. The most likely option in series betting is a 4-2 win to LA, for which Ladbrokes is offering odds of 3.30. Close behind is a 4-3 Lakers victory, at 3.60. The odds of the series reaching a seventh and deciding game (regardless of which team wins), are 2.75. Ladbrokes is offering odds of 1.40 to those who think the series won't reach a seventh game. Team comparison The two teams come into the series with similar form. The Lakers, who finished first in the West with an overall second-best record of 65-17, beat second seed Denver 4-2 in the Western Conference final. Their toughest test came in the second round with a nail-biting 4-3 victory over Orlando, while they easily accounted for Utah 4-1 in the first round. Orlando comes into the finals on the back of two huge upsets. The Magic, third in the East with a 59-23 record, beat LeBron James and the seemingly unbeatable Cleveland Cavaliers 4-2 in the Eastern Conference final, following a similarly surprising 4-3 win over defending champions Boston in the second round. The Magic beat Philadelphia 4-2 in round one. Historically, however, the two teams could not be more different. Los Angeles is aiming for its 15th championship and first since 2002, which would bring it back within two of Boston's NBA record. Orlando has never won an NBA championship. It has been in the finals once since entering the competition 20 years ago - in 1995 when it was swept 4-0 by the Houston Rockets.
