The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has praised a new report released by the European Union that admits that a national approach is no longer viable when dealing with online gambling. Gambling and Betting Framework The report, entitled "Council Conclusions on the Framework of Gambling and Betting in the Member States of the European Union," said that EU ministers had finally reached this conclusion after the debate on the matter was initiated way back in 2008. According to the report, representatives of the union's 27 member states agreed that their national gambling regulatory authorities could take a number of actions to improve cooperation, on matter such as consumer protection, sports integrity, cutting red tape and sharing experiences on responsible gambling. EGBA Secretary General Sigrid Ligne said that the importance of the conclusions for online gambling in the EU cannot be underestimated, adding: "The member states expressly support an in-depth discussion on online gambling in the internal market as proposed by online gambling in Europe.
English film star Colin Firth is the odds favorite to win the award for best actor at the upcoming Golden globes, according to odds released by UK bookmaker William Hill. After months of delays, the Finnish slot machine association Ray has finally launched its legal online poker site for players in the country. Months in the Waiting Online gaming giant Playtech was awarded the contract back in May to provide the software for Finland's state gaming monopoly, but the site's launch was delayed for months as legislators worked to clear up player protection issues.
