A poll held by the Fairleigh Dickinson University Publicmind polling group in New Jersey has shown that Americans are much more opposed to online gambling than their opposition to recreational use of marijuana. The poll was conducted amongst 1,151 adults aged 18 or older nationwide last month, with a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points. Its results have shown that only 27% support the legalization of online gambling in states which do not allow it at the moment (which is the majority of states save for Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey). Colorado and Washington have recently legalized recreational marijuana use, encouraging other states to consider the idea. The polled were then asked about their opinions regarding the legalization of marijuana use, and 50% have stated that they are in favor for such legislation by states. Despite the legislation of online gambling in 3 states late last year, the numbers which came up from this poll are similar to those from 2012 and 2010, when the same questions were asked. More Attention to Marijuana-related News Another question brought up by the pool examined the attitude of Americans to news on legislative matters having to do with online gambling and marijuana. Here, too, marijuana had the upper hand, with 65% of the polled saying that they do not follow info on online gambling news, opposed to 86% who stated that they have read or heard information about marijuana legalization. According to poll director Krista Jenkins, a Political Science professor at the Fairleigh Dickinson University, both activities take place everywhere throughout the United States whether they are allowed by the state's laws or not. "Right now online gambling looks to be a long shot in the court of public opinion," she summed up the results.
