A major distribution deal integrating a leading online gaming platform with a wide-ranging portfolio of online games has been forged. NYX Joins with Spin NYX Gaming Group has signed an agreement with Reno game developing heavyweight Spin Games to distribute Spin's game titles. Through Gaming's subsidiary NYX Interactive, the collaboration will entail distributing Spin's popular games online to newly regulated markets via NYX's decorated OGS platform. As a result of the agreement, all OGS clients will have access to Spin's entire portfolio of content, including leading poker, keno, bingo and slot games. NYX Gaming CEO Matt Davey spoke enthusiastically of this new era for his company, “We are excited to be working with the team at Spin. A Newsweek article has attacked online gambling. With a header reading, “How Washington Opened the Floodgates to Online Poker, Dealing Parents a Bad Hand,” the cover article (shown above) pictures a sad-faced young boy holding up a tablet displaying a poker hand, broken-hearted and inconsolable from his loss of innocence, robbed by online poker. Wire Act Criticised The piece criticises the Department of Justice’s (DoJ) Office of Legal Counsel and the legal opinion of employee Virginia Seitz, which led to reinterpretation of the Wire Act and as Newsweek claims “opened wide the door to online gambling, and … may have opened a Pandora’s box,” by offering so-called “slots for tots.” The upshoot is that the increasingly biased and overly dramatic Newsweek magazine ultimately contains many inaccuracies, one-sided views and oversimplifications of the complex gaming law which has enabled consideration of the reintroduction of gaming to the US population. Reporting Oversights The most egregious oversight is the failure by the writer to draw the distinction between regulated and unregulated online gambling in America, which is of course the crux of the legal basis for introduction of online gambling in a productive and socially as well as legally acceptable form. Silly and transparent scare tactic statements that overdramatize the situation are ones such as the following, “This is just the beginning,” (US Sen.) Chaffetz, who has called for a federal ban on online gambling, tells Goodman. “I am afraid that if we don’t move quickly and get some decent regulations in place, which we really don’t have right now, it will be too late to stop it from reaching all the states.” Online gambling of course cannot reach any states unless it is regulated; online gambling is only possible in three states right now - Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware - and all of these states have strict security, age and identity verification requirements which are first and foremost concerned with protecting minors and confirming users are of age to play. Sufficient regulation is in fact the biggest obstacle to legalizing online gambling in any state. Commenters Recognise the Ruse Ultimately, if one views the critical comments following the piece, the article really does fail to come across as impartial or accurate, reflecting more on Newsweek's feebleness of reportage than any actual evidence of genuine threat to our nation's youth.
The Latvian Department of Supervision of Lotteries and Games (IAUI) has granted more than 160 online gambling licenses to operators since 2011. In spite of the considerable influx, there is still a distinct lack of linguistic coverage for Latvian players. Financial institutions have also been drawn into the affair, with the Latvian government ordering them to block all transactions attempted between Latvian residents and offshore operators. Once a Haven Latvia was initially a haven for reserved for domestic online gambling operators. After first legalising online gambling in 2003, the market was later opened up to foreign entities in 2011, based on regulatory changes made by the European Union (EU). IAUI Sought ARJEL Advice Latvia appears resolute in its desire to restore to the exclusive conditions that once existed in the country. Prior to this latest action, IAUI leader Signe Birne spoke with his French counterpart from ARJEL to seek advice in dealing with unlicensed operators. A stern approach was likely recommended.
Gaming and lottery products provider Scientific Games has signed two new supply deals with both old and new customers. Minnesota Lottery Contract Extension The first deal, struck with the Minnesota Lottery, sees a two-year extension to the existing contract under which Scientific Games serves as a secondary instant game provider for the lottery. Minesotta Lottery director Ed Van Petten expressed his trust in Scientific Games, commenting on the contract extension and the long-term relationship with Scientific Games: "We have worked with Scientific Games since 1990 to create games that provide entertainment, value and engagement with the Lottery's brand." Taiwan Lottery Contract The second deal was signed with the Taiwan Lottery Corporation (TLC) to which Scientific Games will supply instant games. A subsidiary of CTBC Financial Holding, TLC is the operator handling Taiwan's Public Welfare Lottery which is dedicated both to creating funds for welfare projects and creating of job opportunities for Taiwan's disadvantaged. The two year contract was signed after a formal procurement process and it began June 2014 with a bridge for an additional two-year extension. Speaking on the deal, President of the TLC Joy Huang said: "We awarded this contract to Scientific Games as part of our overall plan to expand the Taiwan Public Welfare Lottery's instant product offering. Through the exciting licensed properties Scientific Games offers, we hope to further engage and entertain players in Taiwan." Asia-Pacific Presence Expanded CEO of Scientific Games' Asia-Pacific operations Michael Conforti said: "The addition of Scientific Games as an instant game provider will help the TLC continue its impressive growth trajectory that has resulted in ever increasing returns to its public welfare programs". Back in July, the Dutch Council of Ministers agreed in principle to apply a tax of 20% on all gross revenue generated by online gambling operators.
