100 Million Mobile Players By 2018?Published December 20, 2013 by OCR Editor
The growth of mobile gambling has already been phenomenal, and it's estimated that by 2018 another 100 million extra players will start enjoying casino games via mobile devices.
Huge Growth In Mobile Betting Predicted
There are presently an estimated 64 million online bettors who access their games at least part of the time via mobile phones or tablets. A recent study by Juniper Research has estimated that by 2018 that number will have grown by an extra 100 million, with much of the increase being down to the expected opening up of the US market.
The research suggests that users will be betting on sports, and playing mobile casinos or Poker, and with more and more sites developing sophisticated apps to assist in this, the growth is likely to accelerate. Mobile casinos like William Hill mobile, bet365 mobile and Winner mobile are already offering players top quality games and features. The majority of phones now sold in many countries are smartphones, that have bigger screens and smoother, sharper graphics. This makes playing games on a mobile easier and closer to the experience of playing on a PC or laptop than ever before.
US Regulation Changes
It is widely expected that the rules surrounding online betting in the USA will soon be relaxed, allowing residents to play at many of these sites for the first time since the laws were tightened in 2006. A separate report indicated that in the US alone, mobile gambling turnover could reach $100 billion by 2017, making this market an essential one to be a part of. Online sportsbooks, casinos and Poker sites have been rapidly working to meet this demand, with many expecting to earn over 50% of their revenue from mobile users within the next year or so.
Sian Rowlands, author of the report has said that ''gambling operators have been required to shift the nature of their organization away from ‘legacy' services such as telephone betting towards becoming a more mobile-oriented company.''
