Unprecedented win makes Florida woman a multimillionaire in Powerball Lottery!
Largest Jackpot Prize Ever Recorded
The $590 million jackpot has been deemed the largest ever in the history of the Powerball Lottery. Multiple states run the Powerball, making it one of the most lucrative lotteries in the world. It was estimated that by the time of the drawing some 80% of all the possible number combinations had been purchased, meaning that the statistical probability of someone winning was very high. That winner turned out to be Gloria C. Mackenzie. She purchased her ticket on May 18 th , 2013.
Mackenzie shunned the press, not wanting to have her face splashed across media channels the world over. But the world was watching when she came forward to claim her prize. The May 18 th drawing was one of the most anticipated ever and according to an affiliate of Florida ABC, Mackenzie arrived at the state's HQ on Wednesday afternoon. Gloria decided to give 50% of her winnings to her son Scott. The winning ticket was purchased in Publix - a fresh produce store - as a quick-pick ticket. Another lottery player allowed Gloria to go ahead and take the quick pick, a move that resulted in the massive winnings.
Florida's law prohibits the Lottery winners remaining anonymous. The town that Mackenzie resides in, Zephyrhills is home to some 13,000 people. Most everyone was eager to learn who among them was the lucky winner. Back in 2012, a massive $587 million lottery was split between 2 players.
