888 Launches Spanish Online Poker

In great news for Spanish online poker players and gamblers, 888poker will begin operating its new Spanish website immediately after being granted a license to do so last week by the country's gaming authority.

888 will contact all of its Spanish customers shortly to help make the transition process as smooth and seamless as possible. It will instruct players on how to move their accounts from 888poker and 888casino to 888poker.es and 888casino.es and will guide them as they begin their brand new Spanish gaming experience.

Bankrolls will be moved over the new accounts and converted to euro balances in those cases where customers are using other currencies. But apart from that nothing much else will change, which means players can just enjoy the ride. 888's Spanish online poker site will provide the same platform and services familiar to its global customers.

Spain's Gaming General Directorate granted 888 a license last Friday after confirming that the company had met all the requirements of market entry. It ruled that 888poker would be good to go in its new fully regulated environment for all poker and casino players on June 5, the day the Spanish market officially opened.

888 was one of several leading online gambling operators to agree last week to pay millions of euros in back taxes to Spanish authorities for gaming dutyies from January 2009 to May 2011. The cash-strapped Spanish government has apparently made this a condition of market entry for foreign companies.
