Formed in 1991, the World Seniors Snooker Championship is a professional non-ranking snooker tournament open only for players over 45 years of age. The 1991 tournament which was won by Cliff Wilson was a onetime event until the competition resumed activity in 2010 and it has since taken place yearly in October.
This year some of the snooker world's most famous names will take part in the competition. Some of the names include: Jimmy White, Steve Davis, Cliff Thorburn, Joel Johnson, Dennis Taylor and defending champion Nigel Bond. For the first time in the competition's history it will see attendance by seven-time World Champion Stephen Hendry.
Commenting on 888's sponsorship of the upcoming event, World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: "888casino.com are showing fantastic support for snooker this season through title sponsorship of a range of events". Hearn described the tremendous success of the World Seniors Snooker Championship since it was resumed in 2010, saying that World Snooker looks forward to working with the 888 team.
Itai Pazner, Senior Vice President of 888 said: "888 is very excited to continue our connection to Snooker across several events in the upcoming months. The feedback from our customers put Snooker as one of their favorite sports which is why the sponsorship with our casino brand, 888casino, is the perfect match. We hope our customers will enjoy the extra promotions and content we will provide by teaming up with the World Seniors Championship and other Snooker events."
