Even though a ban is in place, American gamblers have not given up their popular pastime of gambling online.
Scan Safe, the web security firm, has recently detected a 40 percent rise in US based requests for online casino sites, despite legislation that was recently passed by President George W. Bush - the UIGEA, or Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which bans Americans from playing online or conducting money transactions with US financial companies.
The firm delivered its findings in its Global Threat Report covering instant messaging, viruses, and spy ware. Dan Nadir, Vice president of product strategy, said that a drop in visits to online gaming sites was expected after the passing of the new law. According to Nadir, "we actually saw an increase in web requests from the US for online gambling sites." Gambling fans seem to be flocking to these forbidden sites in order to continue their loved pastime.
It is difficult for many to stop visiting and playing, especially those who play often. For many, the new law has impacted their bravery in playing online; for others, it has made no difference whatsoever. As long as players continue to visit these online gambling sites, the industry will continue to grow and flourish. Because it is an international industry, it has a strong presence around the world, and one that is difficult to stop, even with the passing of a major law.
