Argentina Heads To Copa America Final After Thrashing Paraguay

A scintillating 6-1 Argentina victory over Paraguay will see Leo Messi and teammates take on Alexis Sánchez’s Chile in the 2015 Copa America final on 4 July.

Argentina finally got it together at the 2015 Copa America by decimating Paraguay in a 6-1 encounter. Ignited by Barcelona treble-winner Leo Messi, La Albiceleste appeared irresistible in attack. At last they lived up to their world-class potential, following a sluggish four games before their semi-final matchup with Paraguay.

Argentina Decimate Paraguay 6-1

Head coach Gerardo Martino continued with a 4-3-3 formation in which Messi started on the right side of the trident-esque attack. But rather than continue with Carlos Tevez in the centre – Tevez was subpar in the quarter-final against Colombia – Martino went back to Sergio Agüero and was rewarded with a goal-scoring performance.

Argentina opened with a 2-0 lead before Paraguay pegged them back to 2-1, courtesy of a Lucas Barrios goal. La Albiceleste had already let a two-goal lead slip against Paraguay in their opening game, so the fans would have been understandably concerned. However, they did not look back after Ángel Di María scored on 47 minutes. In the end, the 6-1 victory was comfortable.

Argentina the Team to Back on 4 July

Messi is integral to the Argentina attack if they are to deliver performances of that calibre. And at last he brought the team together, sacrificing his own goal-scoring tally in favour of laying on three assists for his teammates. All signs point to Argentina having peaked at the right time, which is reminiscent of Germany’s 7-1 thrashing of Brazil at last year’s World Cup.

Argentina are currently available to win their final against Chile in 90 minutes at approximately 2.10 with bet365. Those odds are quite generous considering Chile are growing extremely anxious at the prospect of winning their first Copa America – and in their own country, no less. For a slightly more conservative outcome, backing Argentina to win the trophy at 1.53 also looks good. bet365 has many other Copa America markets to back.
