Australian Open: All-Swiss Semi-Final - Federer vs Wawrinka

Sol FH. - January 26, 2017

Today at 8:30 GMT, Roger Federer has an excellent chance of making it back to the Aussie Open Finals, but needs to beat country-mate Stan Wawrinka to get there.

To say that Roger Federer has kicked off 2017 in great form would be an understatement. The now 35 year old Swiss tennis legend is playing precise, smart and very strong tennis and has made it through to the Semi-Finals. A win for Federer or Wawrinka today will mean meeting either Rafael Nadal or Grigor Dimitrov, dependent on their Semi-Final match tomorrow at 8:30GMT.

This tourney has been a fan-favorite with upsets and major comebacks by stars like Federer and Nadal, while the top-ranked players like Murray, Djokovic, Raonic, Nishikori, and Monfils are all out. Bettors have also been reaping the rewards of the upsets with huge odds being payed out at the top sportsbooks like bet365 Sports.

Federer owns the win record against Wawrinka at 18-3 and he dominates his countryman virtually every time they meet. Wawrinka did win the Australian Open in 2014, but since then it has been awhile since winning his last big Grand Slam. On hard courts though, Federer is a perfect 13-0 against Wawrinka and has won 28 of the 32 sets played therein. Without a doubt, we are in for a treat and this might be one of the last occasions we get to see Federer in the late stages of the Aussie Open. Now ranked 17th on the ATP tour, he is definitely proving critics of him wrong and giving fans exactly what they want to see; the star that they grew up watching win everything, winning yet again.

Prediction

Roger Federer all the way. He is very strong right now and is much better than Wawrinka on the hard court, so, even though it will be a great match, Federer should win.

Australian Open Betting

bet365 Sports is offering early morning live in play odds throughout the sets and has posted odds in favor of Federer at 1.53, while Wawrinka is not too far behind at 2.50. Set betting at bet365 Sports could be the best bet as the odds grow substantially.
