Battle of the Sexes: Women Better Gamblers Than Men

Calvin Ayre has published an infographic report from Smart Live Gaming that details who is betting across the UK. It highlights some surprising facts and figures, and perhaps the most interesting one relates to how successful women are at gambling when compared to the men.

Smart Live Gaming carried out the research to better understand their customers, and to see what the current state of the market is with regards to location, gender and age.

Who is Winning in the UK?

Much of the information published is as expected, with the London players making the biggest wagers, and also making up the largest number of players from a single region, followed by Birmingham and Manchester. Players in their 20's make up by far the biggest group, with those aged 45 and over being active in far fewer numbers.

Residents of Liverpool make up only 5% of the study group, but are the most successful overall, with Newcastle coming bottom of the league of 12 cities, having only 88% of the win rate of Liverpudlians.

Women Versus Men

The research has revealed that Smart Live Gaming's players are predominantly male, with men making up some 86% of all customers. However, it is the women who are more successful, with some 9% better results shown across the board.

There are a number of reasons why this should be noted by betting operators, who often target women with Bingo and little more, but it is thought that while men tend to play competitive games like Blackjack and Poker, women gravitate to slots games, and Video Poker, where the temptation to stake more and more is reduced.

Women are also earning more, while lifestyle changes such as choosing to live with a partner later in life, more stressful jobs, but also more leisure time are giving women more opportunities to show the men just how good they are at wagering sensibly and successfully.
