Benfica and Maritimo Square off in the Taca Da Liga Final

Florin P. - May 20, 2016

Benfica could add new trophy to its stellar collection (7:45 p.m UK Time).

Benfica expanded its winning streak to six games in a row, enough to win the domestic championship at the expense of its city rival. It was a tight fight that started in the first round and only ended when the final whistle was blown, but they can’t relax yet. One more trophy is within their grasp and if they manage to defeat Maritimo on the road, they will also win Taca da Liga.

Teams at the Opposite End of Form

Benfica is firing on all cylinders and has scored an average of two goals per match during the winning streak. This is reassuring ahead of this fixture, especially now that they take on a team that won just twice in the last nine games. Not having home pitch advantage shouldn’t be a big problem, given the fact that the reigning champions have secured more victories on the road than any other Portuguese team.

Maritimo secured its presence in the first division back in March and since then lost seven out of nine games, while being shutout in most cases. It looked like players almost lost motivation to fight anymore, which resulted in a disappointing finish in the second half of the tables.

Fatigue Could Be a Problem for Benfica

The only thing that could ruin the party for the newly crowned champions is fatigue, since Benfica has played a lot of games recently. That’s why they need to come out firing on all cylinders and take the lead early on, to stun their opponents.

Benfica is clearly the better team and if it starts aggressively, it should not have any problems in winning by two goals or more, an outcome priced at even odds by bet365 sports. Maritimo lacks both the stamina and class to overcome an early deficit and has a permeable defensive that can be its undoing.
