Germany vs. Poland friendly, 6:45pm GMT.

With the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicking off next month in Brazil, the national team of Germany will host Poland's national team today at the Hamburg Stadium for a friendly. Germany will take to the field with an improvised squad, seeing more than half of the Mannschaft's squad is unavailable, with players from Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Bayern Munich unavailable for the friendly due to prior club commitments.

Some of the names Germany is expected to show today include Leo Goretzka, Max Meyer, Shkodran Mustafi, Kevin Volland, Christian Gunter and Andre Hahn. Speaking about the game on a press conference, assistant coach to Joachim Low, Hans Dieter-Flick, has promised "great football" despite the expected squad. Some young players will be able to use today's friendly to leave a good impression and secure a ticket to Brazil. Germany will play two more friendly matches before flying to Brazil, with a match against Cameron on June 1st and against Armenia on June 6th.

After more than a decade of almost getting there but not quite, Germany is gearing up for the World Cup and is aiming as high as they can. Poland which has not managed to qualify to the world cup will also be missing key players like striker and top scorer Robert Lewandowski and fullback Lukas Piszczek who are busy with Dortmund.
