Today is the final of the Eurovision 2011.

The 56th Eurovision Song Contest is being held in the German city of Düsseldorf. The contest started out in 1956 and has been showcased throughout the world in an uninterrupted format. At inception only a few countries participated, but by the time 2008 rolled around there were some 43 countries participating in this globally popular song contest. It remains the most highly anticipated musical contests in the world.

This year sees Italy returning after an absence of several years. Dana International, the Israeli diva & 1998 Eurovision winner, will be making a comeback performance with her own song - Ding Dong. The Russians are performing a song composed by one of the song writers working with Lady Gaga. Their song's name is 'Get You' and it's being performed by Alexej Vorobjov.

The UK's entry is Blue - a boy band. They have enjoyed massive popularity over the years. After their re-unification, they will be performing 'I Can' in front of millions of adoring fans. Their performance is slated for the final on Saturday the 14th May at 20h00 GMT.

The Road to the Finals

The following countries have safely navigated their way through the 1st Semi-Final and have booked their place in the finals of this exclusive event: Azerbaijan, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia and Switzerland. The Big 5 countries are those which have automatic entry into the finals of this prestigious contest. They include France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
