UK athletes will soon benefit from the educational support of Betway following a June agreement struck with the Professional Players Federation.
Betway casino has just formed an agreement that will see the multichannel gambling operator partner with the Professional Players Federation (PPF), a sporting organisation formed to promote, protect, and develop the collective interests of players.
Education to Highlight Match Fixing Risks
The focus of the partnership will be for Betway to contribute to initiatives focused on sports betting integrity, highlighting the risks of match fixing. More than 5,000 athletes are estimated to participate in the annual initiatives. Betway’s funding will mostly be diverted to back educational training delivered through e-learning programmes and trained tutors.
Betway CEO Richard Akitt explained that “we are all aware of the dangers and temptations that young, professional sportspeople face. We are, therefore, delighted to partner with the Professional Players Federation.” Akitt also announced that Betway intends to provide support to the PPF “for many years to come.”
Protecting the Reputation of UK Sport
PPF chairman Brendon Batson was equally delighted that Betway would be doing “much to protect British sporting integrity.” Batson believes that “education for athletes is one of the best defences against the threat of match fixing.” Batson went on to praise the virtues of sports betting operators working with the PPF to “protect the UK’s reputation for sporting excellence, integrity, and fair play.”
Betway’s funding will enable the PPF to increase the scale of its education to encompass even more sports and athletes, a goal that the organisation has been perennially working towards since founding in 1991. Comprised of 13 member associations and presenting more than 17,000 athletes, the PPF is the largest of its kind in the world.
The PPF has been drawing support from UK sports betting operators since 2010, with key partnerships formed with the likes of bet365, Betfair, and Ladbrokes. This latest deal will ensure Betway’s support for the next three years until June 2018.
