Red Sox slugger David Ortiz swings an eighth-inning grand slam saving the Sox from a 0-2 deficit.
A big drama unfolded last night at Fenway Park in the American League Championship Series. The Red Sox were trailing by four runs against the Detroit Tigers. The situation looked dire and it seemed almost certain that the Sox are heading for another defeat after losing their previous home game, which meant a 0-2 deficit.
But then Red Sox slugger David Ortiz stepped up to the plate. Ortiz must be a Diana Ross fan. His swing gave Ross' song "upside down" a new meaning. Ortiz's swing had Tigers' right-fielder Torii Hunter desperately jack-knifing the Boston pullpen in an effort to catch the ball, an effort which proved futile indeed. A cop who was celebrating didn't even make an attempt to help the poor right-fielder! On the ninth-inning, Jarrod Saltalamacchia singled in to bring the Sox to a 6-5 victory, taking the next game to Detroit.
