Earlier in 2014, in back to back months (February/March) the US Powerball kicked off the winning festivities as a single ticket holder chalked up the sixth largest win of all time with a $425.3 million win boasting a cash value of $242.2 million. The month after that the Mega Millions was won to the tune of $414 million by two ticket holders whom split the cash prize of $230.9. 

These prizes, albeit huge, are not even close to the full potential of either of these lottery games.  The record for biggest lottery prize ever won was back in 2012 in which three players struck it rich as they won $656 million while playing Mega Millions.  The second largest prize ever was set again by the Mega Millions just one year later as two players split $$648 million, translating to a cash prize worth $347.6 million.
