This project, Blindsight, is focused on allowing not only those with visual impairments but even people who are fully unsighted to one day regain the ability to see, thanks to its astounding integration of cutting-edge technology with the human nervous system.
The above designation from the FDA is essential in Blindsight's ability to assist visually challenged people in regaining their sight. It removes many of the hurdles faced by new medical technologies, allowing its creators to speed up the development, testing, and revision process for “premarket approval, 510(k) clearance, and De Novo marketing (marketing of a medical device) authorisation.”
Allowing his nerd flag to fly high, Musk shared the potential that the technology holds, referencing the Geordie La Forge character from Star Trek when adding:
“… but eventually, it has the potential to be better than natural vision and enable you to see in infrared, ultraviolet or even radar wavelengths, like Geordi La Forge.”

Based on the rapid advancements seen with Neuralink, expectations are high that the team behind Blindsight will begin to introduce those advanced vision features sooner rather than later.
