The US Open heats up with R32 matches (4:00 p.m UK Time).
Bondarenko is on the verge of improving her U.S. Open performance, by making it to the last 16. After defeating to Chinese players in the first two rounds, she now locks horns with Anastasija Sevastova. Her opponent has caused one of the biggest upsets in the tournament, by defeating Roland Garros winner Garbine Muguruza.
Uplifting Head to Head Record for Bondarenko
The Ukrainian player is probably happy to face Sevastova as she is undefeated in the series. They met on three occasions and Bondarenko won each match, including a recent victory in Dubai. In these three contests, the Ukrainian didn’t drop a single set and won five of them with the same score 6-3. One break proved to be enough each time and once again she will be relying on a powerful first serve.
Kateryna was lucky to face weaker opponents and was credited by bookmakers with the first chance every time. Once again she is expected to prevail at the expense of Sevastova and bet365 Sports offers odds of 4/5 on her victory.
Lack of Constancy Harms Sevastova
The 26 years old player from Latvia is immensely talented and on a good day she is capable of defeating almost anyone. The best proof is that she won in straight sets against Garbine Muguruza, one of the most powerful players in the world. However, constancy is not one of her qualities and this was shown plenty in the last tournaments of 2016.
Sevastova plays at her best in the early stages of less prominent tournaments. When pressure mounts, she has a hard time focusing and maintaining a high level of play. Two months ago, she was utterly destroyed by Simona Halep who crushed her 6-0 6-0 in the final of the Bucharest Open. Now she has a chance of making a deep is run at the US Open and this puts her under tremendous pressure.
