Borussia Dortmund vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia Dortmund takes on Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Battle of the Borussias on Sunday, 5:30 pm CET.

Haaland is set to make his first appearance since Matchday 20 against Gladbach. Donyell Malen has played a central role in the absence of the prolific Norwegian. At the same time, captain Marco Reus made up the scoring slack against Union Berlin last time out as BVB closed the gap on Bayern Munich to six points. Reus scored twice in the 3-0 win over Die Eisernen, and if Haaland returns, Malen or Julian Brandt will likely replace him in the front three. With Gio Reyna back in the mix, they might both miss out.

Emre Can also was suspended for Thursday's UEFA Europa League match against the Rangers. He might fill in at right-back for Manuel Akanji, who suffered a calf injury in the 4-2 defeat Thomas Meunier, who is still recovering from a muscular issue. Mo Dahoud and Axel Witsel are likely to be joined in midfield by Jude Bellingham, who will make his 50th Bundesliga appearance.

In their previous match this season, Ginter and his colleagues were able to keep Haaland and his Dortmund teammates quiet, as the Foals won 1-0. It was a memorable victory for Adi Hütter's team, indicating that Gladbach would be fighting for survival at the top of the table rather than scraping by at the bottom. On the other hand, Gladbach is currently only four points clear of the promotion/relegation playoff spots.

Hütter's men have been boosted in recent weeks, with a 3-2 win against Augsburg last weekend, giving them four points from a potential six as they begin to thread some form together. Ramy Bensebaini, Jonas Hofmann, and Kouadio Kone were the scorers against Augsburg, and Gladbach should use the same lineup. As a result, Joe Scally, a USA international, is expected to remain among the substitutes.
