Boston Red Sox Win 2013 World SeriesPublished October 31, 2013 by OCR Editor
Amazing defense, heavy hitting and teamwork has made the Red Sox World Series Champions yet again.
It took them six games to win but the Red Sox took the MLB 2013 World Series Championship. It has been 95 years since the BoSox won the championship at home but the fans at Fenway Park were thrilled last night as the home team won their 8th World Series.
David Ortiz was selected as the MVP and of his 5 at bats he was walked 4 times as the Cardinals didn't dare pitching to the MVP slugger. It all began in the 3rd inning when Boston did something that no other team could do in the 2013 MLB off season - get in the head of Michael Wacha. The all star pitcher was not himself in this game and gave up a double with the bases loaded to Shane Victorino which brought Jacoby Ellsbury, Ortiz and Jonny Gomes across the plate for a 3-0 lead. The bottom of the 4th inning featured a huge home run by Stephen Drew and a couple more scores due to a fly out by Dustin Pedroia before Wacha was pulled.
Next on the mound was Lance Lynn whom the Cardinals hoped would fare better but the damage was already done and aside from a Cardinals score in the top of the 7th the game was all done and the Sox were crowned victorious. Koji Uehara pitched the top of the ninth and the Cardinals fell 1,2,3 to end the game.
"This is for you Boston. We've been through a lot this year," said Ortiz while collecting his MVP award. The Boston Police were in full force outside of Fenway as the Boston fans, known for their antics were at a risk for riots but aside from a bit of damage nothing too serious went down.
For those of you that made bets at the beginning of the year with the Red Sox, congratulations, and if you didn't, well you have another year of baseball in a few months.
Congratulations to the 2013 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox. The city has been through a lot this year so at least this will add some light to the town.
