Two of Europe's best soccer leagues - the German Bundesliga and the Italian Serie A - kick off their 2010/11 seasons, and there are clear favorites in the season odds for both competitions.
In Germany, the reigning Champions League runner-up Bayern Munich is a hot 8/15 Ladbrokes favorite to beat all challengers for the title, while in Italy, Inter Milan - the team that beat Bayern in the Champs League final - is favorite for their domestic competition, 11/10 at Ladbrokes.
Seven of the Bayern's 17 opponents represent a realistic threat to Bayern's aim of winning a record 23rd German title: Schalke and Werder Bremen, 7/1, Wolfsburg, 12/1, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund, 14/1, and Hamburg and Stuttgart, 16/1.
This makes the Bundesliga a far more open competition than the Serie A, in which only three teams realistically could prevent Inter from taking the title: cross-town rivals AC Milan, 4/1, Roma, 4/1, and Juventus, 4/1.
There is an element of unpredictability in both leagues given the changes they have introduced to the ball for the new season.
In Germany, all games will be played with the Adidas Jabulani, the official ball of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Previously, the home team supplied the match ball.
In Italy, the Nike T90 Tracer will now serve as the match ball.
