Ultimate Poker is up, but will rival Caesars launch this quarter?
US poker players have been waiting patiently for Caesars to launch its WSOP-style real-money online poke site in Nevada, and they may not have to wait that much longer if a recent report is any indication.
Launch Expected This Quarter
Caesars Entertainment Corp. has issued no official update since its announcement earlier this year that it was planning a Nevada online poker launch this summer. However, CEO Gary Loveman said in an earnings call with reporters last week that he expects the product to launch this quarter (meaning by the end of September).
If launched in the coming months, Caesars would become the first rival to the only existing in-state online poker site in Nevada - Ultimate Poker, which last week celebrated the historic milestone of delivering 10 million hands.
Where to For Caesars' online hopes?
Just a few weeks ago, Caesars received final approval from Nevada gaming regulators to launch its online gambling business. As one of the largest land-based casino operators in the US, what Caesars does in the online era will have ramifications for online gambling across the country.
It is widely believed that Caesars is one of the 37 companies that expressed interest in receiving a New Jersey online gambling license when that states starts issuing. Both Nevada and NJ have legislated for in-state online gambling but are hoping to act as bases for the rest of the country in the event of federal legalization.
