Vietnam seems committed to eradicating sports betting although it does want to regulate online gambling.
The Vietnamese police seized large amounts of cash, records, and computers when they raided the Vu Hanhs unofficial football bookie business this week. The raid occurred at all of the multiple premises used by the entrepreneur. Several houses were searched for evidence of the online betting operation in the bust.
In addition, seven Vietnamese, believed to be members of an online casinos gang, were arrested on charges that had them involved in taking bets in local currency. The value of this money was the equivalent of around $3,000 to $4,000 a day.
The industry is constantly facing opposition when it comes to regulation and legalization in countries around the world. Although many nations have already made the sites legal, there are some who have banned it, most notably the US, and some who still cannot come to an agreement on terms of operation, like Vietnam. When this country does regulate online gaming, it will join many of the other countries of the world who have their citizens playing legally.
