CEEGC 2018 Features Insights into Emerging Bulgaria

Legal expert Miglena Dimitrova leads the Central and European Gaming Conference speaker agenda.

A true highlight of this year’s Central and Eastern European Gaming conference is a feature presentation about the state of gambling in another intriguing emerging market.

Dimitrova on Centre Stage

Bulgaria will be one of the centres of attention at CEEGC 2018 when MDMI Legal’s Miglena Dimitrova takes the podium in Budapest (MDMI Legal) for a panel discussion examining the Eastern European gambling market up-close with crucial updates.

Expertise to be Shared

As an IP and regulatory lawyer and mediator, Miglena will give a full picture of the current and future direction of jurisdiction in a relatively small country which hosts over 1327 registered gaming companies. Miglena’s evidence-based insights are gleaned from her vast experience in online media, financial services and gambling.

Key Industry Developments

The updates come on the heels of a 10-year rise in the Bulgarian gambling industry by the Center for the Study of Democracy of Bulgaria showing revenues will continue to rise significantly, after bringing in $1.8 billion in 2017.

Low Taxes

Another interesting revelation was the relatively low taxes paid of $111 million in 2016, with Bulgaria’s friendly tax system, paving the way for “rapid and aggressive” expansion of the gambling industry in Bulgaria.

The Current Challenge

Bulgaria is still facing a hurdle in advertising that Dimitrova will have a lot to say about: a bill calling for stricter controls on gambling ads has been introduced to Parliament with support from the unlikely domestic political allegiance of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party (GERB) and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP).

Top Opposition

The Deputy Prime Minister-sponsored bill seeks to close loopholes in the current ban leaving the door open for gaming operators to indirectly advertise their products.

Forecast

With Dimitrova spearheading discussions, CEEGC 2018 also will examine key developments in Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Belarus. Those looking to harness the benefits of this diamond in the rough region can discover them at CEEGC 2018 thanks to all the expert speakers who will be on hand.
