Celta Vigo and Villarreal Put Undefeated Runs to the Test

Florin P. - October 16, 2016

Celta Vigo seeks fifth consecutive win after defeating Barcelona last weekend (7:45 p.m UK Time).

Villarreal won back-to-back games just once over the last six months, but remains within striking distance of the leading pack. A victory on Sunday against Celta Vigo would allow them to leapfrog two teams and, step closer to securing a Champions League berth. The visitors are highly confident ahead of this fixture, after they defeated Barcelona at home and scored four goals.

Less Than Meets the Eye About Celta Vigo

The visitors are indeed in great form and have won four games in a row, including the latest thriller against Barcelona. While they are definitely a force to be reckoned with these days, Celta Vigo still has plenty of problems to solve. Barcelona was without Messi and got stunned after conceding two goals early on, but still dominated the match.

The previous three victories were against mediocre teams that chose to defend with all lines without taking the initiative. Villarreal is a different beast and with its fast strikers, it has the capability of pushing the visitors into their own half. One point on the road doesn’t look that bad under the circumstances, but Celta Vigo fans are expecting the team to add the fifth victory in a row.

The Transfer Policy Has Hurt Villarreal

The home side is rightfully credited with the first chance by bookmakers and bet365 Sports offers odds of 9/10 on them to prevail. However, they have lost several players during the season break, including their best strikers. Even so, Villarreal is one of the best teams in the La Liga, when it has home pitch advantage.

They won’t settle for one point on Sunday, as they need a victory to stay within striking distance of Barcelona and Real Madrid. As long as the odds don’t drop any further, punters have good reasons to trust the home side to hand Celta Vigo their first defeat in a month.
