Champions League Final: Barcelona Wary of Underdog JuventusPublished May 26, 2015 by Amir G
Will Juventus bark loud enough to disprove the odds and turn from an underdog to a winner in the Champions League final against Barcelona?
Millions of eyes will be set on the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Saturday, June 6th, to watch the UEFA Champions League final between Barcelona and Juventus.
The Italian Cinderella
While Barcelona was expected to reach the highest levels of the Champions League and all other competitions, it was Juventus that surpassed everyone's expectations. While a respectable and achieving giant in its own regard in Italy's Serie A, Juventus hasn't won the Champions League since its exciting 1996 final against Ajax.
The closest Juventus came to lifting the cup was when the team reached the final in 2002/3, only to lose to Milan in a penalty shootout. This sets the stage for a special standing for the Old Lady in Berlin: it will be an opportunity they simply cannot ditch.
Barca's Starry Line-up
Barcelona is one of the world's most popular teams, proving once again that it's so-called Golden Era has still not ended. The team's line-up is clad with superstars, especially with the strong offense that includes Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar. The chemistry between this trio has proved to be lethal, resulting in a hard time for any respectable defense that goes up against it.
Both teams sport impressive midfields as well, but an even more interesting duel will be the one between the goalkeepers – Juve's Gianluigi Buffon and Barca's Marc-Andre ter Stegen. While the latter is an all-around good keeper, his life was also easier due to his team just playing well. Buffon is 37, 14 years older than Barca's keeper, and his experience cannot be matched. In that regard, Juventus has got the edge on Barca.
