Champions League: Key Match for Chelsea Against PortoPublished December 9, 2015 by Sol FH
What will happen on the last day of the 2015/16 Champions League? Key match for Chelsea at 19:45 GMT.
Chelsea’s season in the Premier League has been an utter disappointment and Jose Mourinho’s days could be numbered with the club. If Chelsea fail to beat Porto at home tonight, they will be out of the Champions League and demoted to the Europa League, which could very well happen being that they face a team that is much better than Southampton, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, to whom they have already lost at home this year. Mourinho is confident his side will come through with a victory tonight, but in front of them is a task greater than any they have faced this season.
Porto beat Chelsea 2-1 back in September, but since then, Chelsea have rallied back to top spot in Group G, tied with Porto at 10 points apiece. Chelsea have improved statistically over the last few weeks, but fail to put the ball in the goal, albeit with many chances to do so. The Blues have improved on defense, having only conceded one goal in their last four games, but the only time that they have beat a “good” team this year was when Arsenal collapsed and Chelsea capitalized.
“It is clear we create so many chances and don’t score goals,” Mourinho said. “It is obvious that it is not a question of developing the game. We are arriving at so many situations where we just need a tap in, and we are not doing that.”
Porto on the other hand are playing very well in the Portuguese league, still not having lost even one match this season. They are in second place due to one more draw than league leaders Sporting CP, and will definitely pose a huge threat to Chelsea tonight.
