Champions League Quarterfinal: Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid
Published April 12, 2017 by Sol FH
The most anticipated Champions League quarterfinal matchup gets underway tonight between Bayern and Real Madrid at 19:45 GMT.
What an amazing match-up for the Champions League quarterfinals. Any other day of the week, this match would definitely be a final round match, but we are very lucky to be able to watch Bayern and Real Madrid for two legs in their Champions League tie. Bayern come into tonight's match having crushed the souls of Arsenal in the round of 16, by a grand total of 10-2 over the two legs. Both matches were won 5-1 and Arsene Wenger was humiliated. Real Madrid also beat their round of 16 competition (Napoli) 3-1 in both legs, but they will have a much tougher time against Bayern, especially when playing at Allianz.
Real Madrid were held to a draw over the weekend against Atletico Madrid, and they suffered the consequences of a tough match by losing Pepe to broken ribs in the process. What this means for Los Blancos is that their top defender will be out for both legs and they will have a hole to fill in their defense. Bayern will obviously be a tough team to defend, but without Pepe and without Rapahael Varane out with a hamstring problem, Zinedine Zidane has some major problems to deal with.
Bayern Munich almost lost their star Robert Lewandowski to a shoulder injury, but Carlo Ancelotti says that he is available. The Polish striker struck twice against Borussia Dortmund before having to be substituted off, but they still managed to win the match 4-1. Bayern are so strong in all competitions and playing them in the quarterfinals in not something that any team likes to do.
