Copa America Quarterfinals: All-Or-Nothing for Chile against Uruguay

Will Chile go through with its Copa America aspirations at home against Uruguay tonight? Kickoff 00:30 UK time.

Santiago's Estadio Nacional de Chile is the venue for tonight's first Copa America quarterfinal between host Chile and 2011 Copa America winners Uruguay (kickoff 00:30 UK time). Both being strong teams, this match could go anywhere.

High Pressure on Chile

Given that they are the hosts, the Chileans are very eager to win the Copa America at home. These hopes can be reinforced by the fact that Chile scored 10 goals during the group stages – six more goals than any other group has managed. Their final game finished with an impressive 5-0 thrashing of Bolivia.

The high pressure on Chile today could go both ways, either it will motivate them to play even better and win, or it'll be a problem. Uruguay is a team that proved it can beat any team anywhere. This is not helped by Chile's recent quarterfinal games, having been beaten in their last three.

Dangerous Uruguay

Uruguay has a knack for knocking out the host at the Copa America quarterfinals, having done that in 2011 (Argentina) when they ended up lifting the cup. Uruguay is a team that is not afraid of big engagements in hostile stadiums. But they got to the quarterfinals from the third position of Group B with one win, one draw and one loss – not an impressive display at all.

Perhaps the team is missing the suspended Luis Suarez, and tonight they might also have to do without Edinson Cavani who might be absent due to family problems. The statistics are working in favor of La Celeste – they've been at this stage many times before in prior Copa Americas and they usually get the job done.
