Gamban partners up with the Dutch Gambling Regulator to give all gamblers in the country an opportunity to obtain a license for their gambling-prevention software for a full year free of charge.
The KSA, the agency in charge of regulating gambling activities in the Netherlands, has teamed up with UK-based Gamban to launch a pilot project aimed at reducing the harmful effects of online gambling. Gamban is a company that provides specialized software designed to allow its users to block access to gambling sites and apps, and this project will enable Dutch players to install the software across all of their devices for a full year completely free.
All Dutch Gamblers Can Benefit
Thanks to the recently-launched pilot, any person residing in the Netherlands will have the ability to obtain a free yearly license for Gamban by contacting Loket Kansspel, the country's national support service. Those wanting to take advantage of this opportunity can get in touch via phone or email.
The project is similar to partnerships established in Norway and Finland, where Norsk Tipping and Veikkaus teamed up with Gamban to also offer the company's product free of charge for anyone who requires it.
Empowering Individuals to Take Control
Gambling addiction is a real problem in the Netherlands and many other countries, and Loket Kansspel believes this partnership will help empower people to take control of their online environment and help them break free from harmful habits.
Thomas Borghols from the KSA explains that the agency already has a self-exclusion program in place. The problem, however, is that the program only works for sites that are actually hold a Dutch gaming license, and it doesn't encompass operators that offer their services in the country illegally. Gamban can help restrict access to those sites as well.
In the PR accompanying the launch of the project, Borghols emphasizes that:
When used together, Cruks and Gamban provide players a perspective on recovery. Teaming up with Loket Kansspel for the distribution of Gamban subscriptions was a logical choice for us, given that they are the first point of contact for players looking for an independent, judgement-free talk about the gambling issues facing them.
Once installed on a person's device, Gamban is difficult to remove, which is one of the essential features of this software. It tries to find the right balance between protection and intrusion and, when combined with self-exclusion schemes, provides a time for an individual to think between the gambling urge and the actual action.
In a world where the lure of immediate gratification through digital activity is increasingly tempting, we want to help people regain control and balance - and by using Gamban, they can do that,
Says Gamban co-founder Matt Zarb-Cousin.
