EFL Cup First Round: Bury vs Sunderland

The Shakers take on the Lads in the first round of the Carabao Cup with action beginning at 19:45 GMT.

The last time that Sunderland was in the first round of the EFL Cup, they lost to their opponents tonight, 2-0. Since that match, Bury has not been able to keep a clean sheet, which was also the final appearance of Niall Quinn as their manager. A lot has changed since that match, but we are treated to yet another one tonight and the odds are pointing to Sunderland getting their revenge.

Sunderland acquired goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter over the summer in a big move for the team. He is in contention to make his debut for the Lads tonight. New manager Simon Grayson is still deciding whether he will start the match, or if he will go with Jason Steele, which would help the consistency. "I know if I put Robbin in on Thursday he won't let us down, but I could keep Jason in to help the consistency of team selection and developing understandings with people," related Grayson.

Sunderland will have some holes to fill in their lineup, as Duncan Watmore, Jack Rodwell, Paddy McNair, Donald Love, and Bryan Oviedo are all still out with injuries. Oviedo is back in training now though. James Vaughan could make his first appearance with the Black Cats tonight and will most likely get a few cheers (or boos) as he was acquired from Bury recently.

EFL Betting Odds

Sunderland are the favorites to win tonight, but not by much. bet365 Sports has them to win at 2.00, while Bury come in at 4.00 for the home victory. It could be the right time to bet on Bury, as Sunderland do have numerous injuries, and Bury have been training for the EFL quite intensely.

Don't miss out on the pre-match betting markets, as well as the live in play options. bet365 Sports will have the most competitive odds or the entire EFL.
