EiG 2014 Conference Begins Today: Look in Sports Betting Tomorrow

The Excellence in Gaming (EiG) 2014 Conference is kicking off today at the Arena Berlin in the German capital for three days packed with action. EiG is one of the most important iGaming conventions in Europe which brings together the industry's biggest names, promoting attendants to look at current issues faced by the iGaming world, to brainstorm solutions and create networking opportunities.

Innovation in Sports Betting

Among the many panels which will be held in EiG 2014, tomorrow sees a much-anticipated insight panel intended to look into the potential future of the online sports betting sector. Besides the interest in online sports betting, the moderator for the panel is also a point of interest, that is the new Business Development Director of FSB Technology, Richard Thorp. A veteran in the iGaming and betting industry, Thorp served in many leading industry positions.

Mobile Sports Betting

Thorp has some interesting notions about online sports betting which he expressed ahead of tomorrow's panel. He claims that the major developments in the sports betting sector are happening in mobile, using the Paddy Power Messenger app as an example for a product that caters especially to the younger market.

At the same time, Thorp sees place for improvement in mobile, giving the Racing Post app as an example for it focusing only on mobile and doing well. This doesn't mean that operators should neglect convergence; they should deliver customers with the same good experiences on desktops and betting shops.

Looking Outside

According to Thorp, sports betting operators could learn from other sectors to get fresh perspectives on important fields. "Looking outside the industry for ideas and how other industries move with the times is important," he claims. "Most of the operators in our industry tend to wait to see whether something works before copying it."
