The online streaming service fuboTV launched its newest product, Fubo Sportsbook, in Iowa on Wednesday. The sportsbook is the first app to sync with an online streaming service, marking a milestone for both fuboTV and the sports betting industry.
The Fubo Sportsbook app includes a feature called “Watching Now,” which shows users live odds on the actual game they’re streaming from fuboTV.
Fubo Sportsbook was licensed by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission at the end of August. It has partnered with the Casino Queen in Marquette to gain market access.
Co-founder and CEO David Gandler commented, “This is a pivotal moment not just for fuboTV, but for the U.S. sports wagering and entertainment industries because it is the first time the two are truly coming together in one ecosystem.”
Sports Betting Has Been a Long-Time Goal of fuboTV
fuboTV, a sports-centric streaming service, had wanted to enter the sports betting arena for some time. Last year, the company bought Balto Sports, a start-up technology company, and Vigtory, an online sportsbook. These acquisitions prepared fubo for the launch of its sportsbook in Iowa.
fubo’s Plans for the Future
Iowa is the first state to feature the unique combination of a sportsbook and streaming service, but if Gandler has anything to say about it, it’s just the beginning. The company already has partners in Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.
fuboTV will also have many more opportunities for expansion, as sports betting is currently legal in 29 states and several more have drafted legislation.
