Empowerment in Budd: ICE London Adds an Auspicious Speaker

ICE London will be setting more records this year, with the presenting expertise growing accordingly.

The list of interviewees has been released of next month’s Excel London, and an address by Sir Alan Budd has emerged as a key feature.

Event Details

Taking place from the 6th to 8th of February at London’s Excel Center, ICE London schedule has now confirmed prominent British Economist Sir Alan Budd for interview with Dan Waugh of international strategic gambling consultancy Regulus Partners.

Budd Background

Sir Budd laid the formal structural foundation for British gambling legislation when he authored the Gambling Review Report in 2001.  He is also a founding member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee and former senior economic advisor to HM Treasury.

Interviewer Expertise

Waugh brings to the discussion table nine years of expertise as Group Strategy Director at The Rank Group where he has been advising clients on responsible development of gaming programmes.

Pioneering Report

Waugh is a huge proponent of the sustainability of the Budd report and it’s relevance today:

"Given that the report will be 17 years old in July - and that the British gambling industry has changed so significantly in that time, it is remarkable how fresh and relevant the report feels today even though it was published at a time when internet gambling was in its infancy and the smartphone was just a glint in the eye of Steve Jobs.

Waugh identifies principles of the original report to which today’s developers of online gaming need to recommit, including “adapting legislation to promote choice and enjoyment and harm prevention;” and periodic reviews to ensure current legislation achieves intended goals.

Chambers Chimes In

Kate Chambers, Managing Director of event promoter Clarion called the interview with someone of Sir Budd’s background an ICE London highlight:

“Sir Alan has advised chancellors, held academic roles in Britain and the United States, served as a founder member of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee and as a senior economic adviser to the Treasury.”

Rich Conference Format

With a record-setting 30,213 visitors attending last year from 151 countries, ICE London is the world’s most diversified business-to-business gaming event. The 2018 edition will offer over 500+ exhibitors occupying a record 43,500sqm of net space.

The inspiring Budd interview promises to be one of the brightest jewels among many exhibition and presentation gems.
