England Will Look to Silence Suarez and Co

England face Uruguay on 19 June in Sao Paulo with both sides hoping that they will have already enjoyed a positive start to the tournament. Either way, this fixture will either represent a chance to all but book a place in the knock-out stages or an opportunity for redemption following a disappointing start to the World Cup.

England will be all too aware of the dangers posed by Uruguay's attack. If Oscar Tabarez's side go far in Brazil, then the impressive odds at William Hill Sports on the likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani to finish as top tournament goal scorer will surely shorten considerably. England know all about Suarez. The Liverpool striker ripped Premier League defences apart last season. His strike partner Cavani has also been one of the top strikers in European club football for a number of years. And if Suarez and Cavani don't produce the goods, then veteran Diego Forlan still offers a potent threat from the bench.

Can England Quell the Uruguayan Attack?

All of which means that this will be a big test for England's defence. It is a unit with very little World Cup experience. It will be a debut tournament for Everton pair Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka, plus his central defensive partner Gary Cahill. Jagielka and Cahill have performed well together so far, but it will be a huge responsibility and test of their quality to keep the Uruguayan attack quiet. However, if they can do so successfully, then England stand every chance of a positive result.
