Euro 2016 Qualifiers: England vs SwitzerlandPublished September 8, 2015 by Sol FH
The Three Lions host the Swiss at Wembley tonight at 19:45 GMT, shooting for a perfect record in the Euro Qualifiers.
England could secure its ticket to France tonight in first place with anything other than a loss to Switzerland. Playing at home, England have an even better chance at maintaining its perfect record, currently with 21 points to lead Group E. The Swiss are in second place with 15 points, but could postpone England's top spot if they were to defeat them tonight.
There is also a chance that we could see history made tonight, as Wayne Rooney needs one more goal to pass Sir Bobby Charlton as the team's all-time highest goal scorer. He tied Charlton after he scored on a penalty, blasting a shot past San Marino's goalie during their 6-0 rampage on Saturday Night.
England coach Roy Hodgson will be making changes in the roster, in part due to injury, but they will need to be sure that they have their fittest players on the pitch to beat the Swiss. Switzerland came back to beat Slovenia 3-2 in the last ten minutes of play, and for those ten minutes, the Swiss showed why they are one of the best teams in Europe.
In their last ten matched against each other, England have won six games and have only lost once, with three draws. The last time they met was almost exactly one year ago, in which England, led by two goals from Danny Welbeck, beat the Swiss 2-0. It will be even harder for the visitors to win at Wembley, as the last team to do so was all the way back in 2007, when Croatia stunned England with a 3-2 result, which ousted England from the 2008 European Championships. Since then, it has been fourteen wins and three draws when at home, and the team wants to win comfortably again tonight.
