Euro 2020 Qualifiers: France vs. Iceland
Published March 25, 2019 by Sol FH
The World Champions take on the talented team from Iceland that continues to impress. Don't miss tonight at 19:45 GMT.
Both France and Iceland got off to a flawless start in the Euro 2020 Qualifiers with wins in their opening matches against Moldova and Andorra respectively. For France, the 4-1 victory with goals from their best - Antoine Griezmann, Raphael Varane, Olivier Giroud, and Kylian Mbappe, were too much for the Moldova team to manage. Iceland dominated Andorra with 76% possession and goals from Birkir Bjarnason, and Vior Orn Kjartansson. Tonight, these two take to the Stade de France in a rematch of the friendly they played last October.
Iceland is the smallest nation by population to ever qualify for a FIFA World Cup, but they were not able to put on a show like that of the 2016 Euro wherein they beat out England in the Round of 16, but, lost to eventual runner's up - France in the quarterfinals. Iceland will be watching the match between Turkey and Moldova, also tonight at 17:00 GMT, as only two from each Group, will advance to the next stage.
Euro 2020 Betting Odds
France is the heavy favorite to beat Iceland, but it should be a thriller. The odds are stacked against Iceland with bet365 Sports posting at 23.00 if they can pull off a win in France. Didier Deschamps' squad are at 1.16, but bet365 Sports has not ruled out a draw at 8.00. There are 120 individual betting markets to choose from, and punters will be able to grab live in-play odds throughout the match.
There are 55 teams in contention for a coveted spot in next year's competition, and winning as many points as possible will be high on the Iceland agenda. Playing for a draw would probably be the visitors' best bet, as it is doubtful that any team would be able to win in France against such an incredible lineup. The French squad looks unstoppable again this year, and its stars are getting better by the game.
