Euroleague: Can Maccabi Win Without All-Star Captain?

It was the worst news that fans of Maccabi Electra could have heard - their beloved Captain, Guy Pnini, most likely sidelined for a few weeks if not months due to Achilles surgery. He was rushed off the court after only the first few minutes of the team’s Israeli League game on Monday night, only to undergo surgery the following day. Usually injuries of this nature require a lot of time to heal but in the meantime, Maccabi needs to hold on and win their Euroleague games.

Last time that Maccabi faced Limoges, it was the season opener and Maccabi crushed the young French team 92-76. Limoges has not played very well this season, only winning one game in Week 2 against Cedevita Zagreb, a team that beat Maccabi Electra in Week 4 by ten points. Limoges have a glimmer of hope tonight, albeit due to a serious injury on their opponent’s side, but they will still need to play their best basketball in order to beat the Israeli side.

It has been fifteen years since Maccabi has lost to a French team. That statistic should strike fear into the eyes of Limoges roster and head coach Jean-Marc Dupraz. Leo Westermann and Pape Philippe Amagou will need to play a solid game defensively against Jeremy Pargo, Yogev Oyahon and Marquez Haynes, sharing the Point Guard duties for Electra. Trent Plaisted, JP Batista and Adrien Moerman have the task of defending Tel Aviv’s big men, which will be no easy task, but with the correct strategy they could win.
