Football Betting: Premier League Matchday 20 Preview
Published December 25, 2017 by Sol FH
The Premier League returns to action the day after Christmas with a full set of matches across the UK.
We have got a big week in the Premier League as all 20 teams will return to action. The day after Christmas, we will be treated to 8 matches including key games between Tottenham vs Southampton, Chelsea vs Brighton, Manchester United vs Burnley, and Liverpool vs Swansea City. On the 27.12, Newcastle will host Premier League leaders Manchester City, and on the 28.12, Matchday 20 will conclude with Crystal Palace vs Arsenal.
Tottenham vs Southampton, 26.12 - 12:30GMT
It will be a big match to kick things off on Matchday 20, as Mauricio Pochettino will be facing his former club. Tottenham is in a good position to work back into the top four. The Spurs are heavy favorites to win, but Southampton may not be the pushover that most people think. Southampton have just 4 wins this season, but Tottenham have been cursed by draws at Wembley this season, with just four teams having more draws then they do in the league. The odds are heavily in favor of the Spurs as online bookmaker 888 Sport has them at 1.30 and Southampton at 10.00 for respective victories.
Chelsea vs Brighton, 26.12 - 15:00GMT
If Chelsea wins tonight, and Manchester United loses, the Blues will take over second place in the league. Albeit the road to taking over City in first will be a tough task to do, but they must start somewhere. In their last league match, Chelsea was unimpressive with their scoreless draw with Everton. They have not been playing at the level of other top four teams in the league, but Eden Hazard has been a glimmer of hope, as the Belgium national has been the strongest and most creative link for the Blues this year. Betfair online sportsbook has some very one-sided odds with Chelsea at 1.16 and Brighton are at 19.00.
Manchester United vs Burnley, 26.12 - 15:00GMT
Beginning at the same time as the Chelsea match, United will host Burnley, a team that has been surprisingly solid this season. Burnley is currently in 7th place, just under Arsenal, and just above Leicester. Tottenham really took the air out of Burnley on Saturday evening with the Spurs winning 3-0. Manchester is really in the driver's seat for this one, as 888 Sport has them as hard favorites at 1.23, and Burnley at 13.00 for the outright win. A draw could be a smart bet at 5.75.
Liverpool vs Swansea City, 26.12 - 17:00GMT
To end the matches on 'Boxing day', the Reds will be hosting Swansea City. Jurgen Klopp has ruled out his Captain, Jordan Henderson, due to a hamstring injury suffered in their last match. Since its last match was on Friday Night last week, there is not a lot of time for recovery from injuries so expect Klopp to heavily rotate his first team for Swansea. Betfair Sports agrees with a Liverpool win prediction and has the most one-sided odds of the week for a Reds' win. Liverpool is at 1.21, while Swansea is at 21.00.
Newcastle vs Manchester City, 27.12 - 19:45GMT
Manchester City is remarkably still unbeaten in the league after a dominating 4-0 performance against Bournemouth over the weekend. City has been as consistent as any team in the world this year and is the best bet to win it all this season. City, will need to overcome a couple of injuries tonight, Phul Foden, David Silva, and Vincent Kompany is still a doubt. The odds are in favor of the league-leaders with 888 Sport posting 12.50 for Newcastle, and 1.22 for Manchester City to win.
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal, 28.12 - 20:00GMT
To close out Matchday 20 of the Premier League season, the Gunners will be trying to improve its current 6th place standing and get back into the top four. It looks like it will be a comfortable game for Arsenal, as Crystal Palace has not been much of a match for any team this year. They have only won 4 games all year and with Arsenal kicking it into high-gear, expect a 3-0 win for Arsene Wenger. Betfair has the Gunners as outright favorites to win at 1.75 and 4.75 for the home team.
