French Open Match Preview: Djokovic Vs. Berankis

The world No. 1 Novak Djokovic set to face Lithuania's Ricardas Berankis in the second round of the French Open at 10:00 GMT.

The Roland Garros French Open is in full swing and the top players of the ATP are in Paris to try and leave their mark on the clay court. There is a big matchup in the second round today between World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and Lithuanian No. 66 Ričardas Berankis. This is a highly anticipated match and it should be a great one to watch.

Djokovic has had almost a perfect season with a win-loss record of 32-1 for the shortened season, but, he has recently had a number of controversies this year amidst the Coronavirus Pandemic, highlighted by his disqualification from the US Open just a couple weeks ago after mistakingly hitting a line judge with a ball.

In this first round of his Roland Garros campaign, Djokovic was near perfect against Mikael Ymer, winning amazingly, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3. If the Serb continues to play like this he should easily win his second title at the French Open and complete his double Career Grand Slam.

Ricardas Berankis has been strong this season and had a decent run at the US Open. He made it to the third round, eventually losing to semifinalist Pablo Carreno Busta. In the French Open, Berankis started with a win over Hugo Dellien 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

Head-to-Head

This will be the second meeting between Djokovic and Berankis. Both times the Serb has destroyed the Lithuanian. They met this year at the Cincinnati Masters where Djokovic won in straight sets.

This will be the first time that they meet each other on clay so there should be some added excitement today.

Prediction and Roland Garros Odds

The World No. 1 will come away with an easy win in this match. He has not slowed at all and he has been taking out the competition one after another with ease this season.

The odds are in favor of Djokovic, as bet365 Sports lists him as the favorite at 1.012, while Berankis is way behind at 23.00. A miracle would be necessary for Berankis to beat the Serb, but, crazier things have happened. bet365 Sports will also be offering live in-play odds throughout the match.

The odds in this article mentioned at the bookmaker above were accurate on Sept. 30 at 11:30 GMT.
